Concerts & Festivals

One of the best ways to motivate a student to learn is to provide opportunities to perform publicly in a welcoming environment. The Oakville Suzuki Association offers a choice of performing opportunities ranging from performing for group classes to concerts at large venues throughout the year.

Most events take place at Glen Abbey United Church or John Knox Christian School. Event announcements and information will be posted on our website and calendar each season, once confirmed.

September

Welcome Concert
A concert featuring all of our Suzuki instruments is a wonderful way to kick-off each new season, as students return to school in the Fall. Combined with the OSA Annual General Meeting for parents and teachers, while children are entertained in a separate room, the event also features a family BBQ and fun for the kids. Attendance at the concert is free, but there is a charge for the BBQ.  Music, entertainment, and food – you won’t want to miss it!

Halloween Concert

October

Halloween Concerts
This costume concert for the violin and piano students is organized by the OSA.  A similar concert for the cellos and flutes is organized by their teachers.  The children enjoy participating in this concert featuring Halloween-themed games, food and music. Only registered students may attend.

November & May

Senior Recitals
These concerts give advanced students the opportunity to graduate from Suzuki books, publicly perform the pieces they will play at their RCM exam, or simply play that difficult piece they’ve focused on and worked so hard to learn.

Pre-registration is required, but a fee is only applied for graduating students in book 1 and above.  Students receive a certificate and gift.  Participation is restricted to registered OSA members only, and there is no fee for family and friends to attend, so come support your child as he or she achieves this special milestone!

December

Christmas Concert
The Christmas concert is a wonderful highlight for the children and a great opportunity to invite friends and family to attend a performance. This is the biggest concert of the year and also our major fundraising event. All instrument departments are involved. Tickets must be purchased by parents, friends and family, however OSA students are free.  Raffle, refreshments, and buskers compliment the afternoon festivities. Only registered students may perform.

March

Oakville Suzuki Chamber Music Festival
This non-competitive event is open to the entire Oakville community and all OSA instrumental departments. Pre-registration and a small participation fee is required for solo, duet, trio, and chamber groups.  Preparing for the festival enables children to form small chamber groups and good friendships.  A professional adjudicator critiques students performances. This is a free event for audience members.

May

For the Love of the Arts Festival

Oakville Suzuki will host a display and bring students along to perform at this free celebration of arts and culture in Oakville.

Instrument specific Concerts

These will take place at Glen Abbey United Church using our grand piano. Participation is restricted to registered OSA members only, however family and friends are invited to attend at no charge.
